On August 5th
each year the parishioners let off bombs crackers, the
saint is taken out of the church of SantAntonio on
her coloured canopy and the feast is celebrated with a
long procession of the statue in the steep narrow
streets of the town. When the king of Spain and of the
two Sicilies Filippo IV in 1643, issued an edict to order
that every Municipality of the reign should elect the
Madonna as Divine Protectress, the inhabitants of
Terravecchia chose The Virgin of the Snow. Since then a
long parochial squabble started between the believers of
the two patron saints; the squabble ended only in 1850 when a
Ministerial Decree elected the two saints "Joint
Patrons".
