The Festival is the occasion for thousands of tourists to taste this white and flattened savoury vegetable which in Giarratana is unique of its kind. The onion in this mountain little town is unbelievably sweet. It is a typical product of Giarratana an original kind of onion pulpier and whiter if compared to the most common varieties of table onion in the market. Sometimes this onion weighs up to 10 oz. The big dimension represent its uniqueness. The exploitation of this product , started in 1978, and is still going on today in order to promote its marketing. From this point of view the Festival represents one of the most significant moments.
